What to do when you Dog has Diarrhea.

When you first notice that your dog has a case of the squirts, you want to STOP feeding him!! If you don’t want it to pour out the rear…don’t put anything in the front. Your dog will not starve if he doesn’t eat for 1-2 days. Chances are if he isn’t feeling well, eating is not first on his list of things to do anyways. Next you will want to determine if he is really sick, eaten something foul, basically is it something worthy of a vet visit. Dogs can have a case of the squirts over nothing or anything. If he is seeming to act like his normal self in all other aspects of his behavior, temperament and health…then it will probably pass by letting his stomach and bowels rid themselves of the diarrhea. Don’t forget that if medications have just been introduced, changed or his environment has changed, these things can stress your dog out and cause a brief episode of diarrhea. Just be alert and when in doubt, call your vet. There are also over the counter and home remedies you could try such as some cottage cheese to help bind but first you want to stop all foods for at least a day or 2-3 meals if you schedule feed. Hope this helps when you are faced with this situation.
